St Pete Beach and the Island Life

When you live on St. Pete Beach, you live the island lifestyle every day.  The constant gulf breeze, the blowing Palms, and the warm sunshine will have you slipping on your flip-flops every afternoon.  St. Pete Beach isn’t just the edge of Florida. It’s part of a barrier island with only a few bridges connecting it to the mainland. You would be amazed at how just crossing one of those bridges onto our island will make you feel. And living here is no different; you always feel that island way of life.

While it does get hot in the summer, the average daily high is 81 degrees with winter monthly averages of 72, 70, and 71 for December, January, and February followed by a comfortably warm spring.  Even when it is at its hottest, the island is cooled by the Gulf breezes. With an average of 248 sunny days per year, St. Pete Beach beats the national average of 204 by a significant margin. Sunny days are happy days when you can enjoys to su-tropical weather and play outdoors.  Finally, St. Pete Beach scores an 84 out of 100 on Sperling’s climate comfort index beatng out the national average of 54.  The weather definitely earns its position at #2 on this Top 10 list. Pass-a-Grille neighborhood lies at the southern tip of St Pete Beach.  Inhabited by native Americans until it was first described by the Spanish explorer Panfilo de Narvaez in 1528.  Later used by French fisherman, the area was first opened to tourists in 1857. The first hotel was built on Pass-a-Grille in 1901 and the area was annexed into the City of St. Pete Beach in 1957; later becoming a National Register Historic District in 1989.

Today, Pass-a-Grille retains much of its early 20th-century charm. Small guest houses and restaurants line the west across from the sea oats that grow along the beach.  This area of the beach offers metered parking directly along the beach along with a snack bar and showers to rinse off after a swim in the Gulf. The wide, white sandy beach, shops, ice cream, outdoor art market, restaurants, tennis courts, basketball courts, and fishing piers are all located within a short walking distance walking distance. Pass-a-Grille Park, a public park, is also located in the neighborhood. This small, historic neighborhood has many small and mid-size historic St Pete Beach homes as well as grand mansions.

No two sunsets are alike and when you live on St. Pete Beach you can enjoy them whenever you want.

Swimming in the clean, warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico is one of life’s greatest pleasures and you can do it every day if you live on St. Pete Beach. Swim out to the sand bar and meet a pod of dolphins, bring a mask and fins and enjoy the sea life below the surface, or simply float along under the blue sky as clouds drift by on a warm Gulf Breeze. If you don’t live in one of a condominium directly on the beach, don’t worry. There are many public access points along the beach. Now, this is paradise!

In addition to swimming in the Gulf, there are many other water sports to choose from.
